I Love Lucy

Yes, I do - Lucy Sullivan, that is....in fact, I love the author of "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married" even more.  The perky, pixie faced, Irish gem Marian Keyes.  She's just brilliant.  She totally epitomises the I-Can-Entertain-without-Being-a-Mindless-bimbo philosophy.  Yes - it's an official credo, an ethos for the masses (I just made it up).  But - read the book.  Like, now! And all her others while you are at it - go  -GO!

What happens when a psychic tells Lucy that she'll be getting married within the year? Her roommates panic! What is going to happen to their blissful existence of eating take-out, drinking too much wine, bringing men home, and never vacuuming?Lucy reassures her friends that she's far too busy arguing with her mother and taking care of her irresponsible father to get married. And then there's the small matter of not even having a boyfriend. But then Lucy meets gorgeous, unreliable Gus. Could he be the future Mr. Lucy Sullivan? Or could it be handsome Chuck? Or Daniel, the world's biggest flirt? Or even cute Jed, the new guy at work?Maybe her friends have something to worry about after all....

A JEWELL of a book...

Lisa Jewell - her books are Jewells, geddit?... oh, never mind..

She's just great - she is strictly Brit-Lit, as some of the best of my choices tend to be, but her books manage to be delicious without being silly, fun without being frilly, and with a dab of reality and social conscience thrown in there too. But which one to pick as a "must read"?  I'll have to go with "Vince and Joy".  I've been doing a lot of these boy/girl books lately. And I love the twist on missed connections in life. Anyhow - here's the scoop on V & J...

Remember falling in love for the first time? Remember thinking, This is The One? Remember life getting in the way? From adolescent snogging to apartment shares, relationships, career crises, and children, Vince & Joy is the unforgettable story of two lives lived separately but forever entwined.  Back in the 1980s, teenagers Vince and Joy met, fell desperately in love, and never quite said good-bye. Now nearly twenty years later they've both begun to ask themselves if that long-ago romance was the enduring love that they've been searching for....

What are you waiting for??? Go get it!...
